Mrs O’s and Mrs G’s class will be celebrating the end of year with a class party on Thursday, 10 December. Lunch will be provided, so please pack only fruit and recess on this day. Children are welcome to bring board games, music or other activities to share.  Please do not bring electronic games (eg. Nintendo DS) and remember that any items brought from home are the individual students responsibility.

The year is drawing to a close and we are beginning to prepare for Christmas. Over the next two weeks we will be making some Christmas crafts. Could you please supply a clearly labelled tinsel coathanger so all your child’s Christmas decorations can be added to it to home at the end of year.

All library books are now overdue and need to be returned to the library as soon as possible.

This will be the last week for take home reading books as we need to ensure they are all accounted for and in correct boxes. It is a great idea for children to continue to read over the holidays so if you are looking for books to read your local library has many fabulous ones to enjoy.

If you are interested in going to the year 3-7 dance performance it is on this Monday the 30th November at Blackwood High School. Tickets are available from the front office fo $5. It is a fun event and the children all do a fantastic job.

Carol’s Night will be held this year on Tuesday 8th December on the Amphitheatre. Keep the date free to join us in some Christmas cheer with songs and music to enjoy. Look forward to seeing you all there!

We will be holding a casual day for the whole school on Friday 4th December.

Please could all children bring a small non-perishable gift as a donation, which we will use to make up large raffle prizes for the Carols Night. Examples of things which parents have donated in the past are tins of food, packets of biscuits, bottles of wine, boxes of chocolates, bath products etc.

Donations need to be brought  to the classroom and will be collected by members of Parents and Friends that morning. Raffle tickets will be sent home with your child, so please sell as many as you can and return stubs and unsold tickets to the Office. If you would like extra tickets to sell they will be available from the Front Office. Thank you.

We had a brilliant time at camp this week!

On Tuesday we had a yummy sausage sizzle before walking about 1km to the beach. When we got to the beach we had to hunt for all kinds of treasure, including shells, evidence of living things (crab shells, cuttlefish bones, etc), flotsam (ocean debris), different types of seaweed and rocks.

The children cooperated in small groups to find everything that they needed, then used their treasures to make awesome sandcastles. The imagination and team work used by all the different groups was excellent! We got to see two of our emergency services at work. We saw the shark watch plane circling overhead while at the beach, and then while walking through the suburbs and scrub we saw CFS workers preparing for a burn off. It’s good to know that there are people out there working hard to make sure that we are safe!

When we got back to camp we played on the playground and had a swim in the pool, which was so lovely and refreshing. Before we knew it it was dinner time. We had a big communal dinner before watching a movie and going to bed. In the morning we had a delicious breakfast of toast, cereal and scrumptious pancakes before cleaning our cabins and packing our bags.

When we had completed these tasks we got together and played some cooperative games. We played a game called attach and defend and then completed an obstacle course to retreive a piece of puzzle before making it with our team members. Morning tea followed before having a swim and playing with a parachute. The children LOVED the parachute games and really worked well together to make a mexican wave and a mushroom.

We made our own healthy sandwiches for lunch before making sure that we had all of our belongings and getting on the bus to go home. It was all over too soon! Thank you to all the wonderful parents who came along and helped to make it a safe and happy camp experience for everyone. Well done to all the children for their excellent behaviour while on camp.

Today your child should have brought home a black ‘money tree’ bag. It is a great fundraising idea which is also fantastic for the environment.

Money tree has been designed so students can bring newspapers to school for collection. The more newspapers collected, the more money raised for the school.

Rather than placing your used newspapers in the bin at home, just place these papers in the money bag and bring the full bag to school each week.

All newspapers should be placed in the specially marked bins beside the fence near the pool area.

The newspapers will be collected, reclycled and reused as cereal boxes, egg cartons and pencil barrels to name just a few expamples.

Only newspapers are to be put into these bins – white paper, cardboard, glossy paper, shredded paper, letter box leaflets and other general waste are NOT recylable in these containers.

It would be great if we could all support this great idea – help the environment and raise money for the school at the same time. A fabulous win – win situation!
